At Manchester Renewables, our MCS-certified surveyors visit your property to assess every factor that affects system performance — from roof structure and orientation to shading patterns and electrical capacity. This means the system we design is perfectly matched to your home and delivers the energy yield we promise.
Our surveys are completely free with no obligation. We typically visit within 5-7 working days of your enquiry and provide a detailed written quotation within 48 hours of the survey. Unlike some companies that rely solely on satellite imagery, we believe an in-person visit is essential to identify issues that cannot be seen from above — such as rafter spacing, consumer unit condition, and cable routing.
What Is Included?
Roof Assessment
We measure your roof dimensions, check the pitch angle (ideal is 30-35 degrees), assess tile condition, and verify structural integrity for panel mounting.
Shading Analysis
Using a Solar Pathfinder or equivalent tool, we map shading from trees, chimneys, neighbouring buildings, and other obstructions throughout the year.
Electrical Inspection
We inspect your consumer unit (fuse board) to check capacity, earthing arrangement, and whether an upgrade is needed to accommodate the solar inverter.
Energy Usage Review
We review your recent electricity bills or smart meter data to understand your consumption patterns and recommend the right system size.
Written Report & Quote
You receive a detailed survey report with system design, predicted annual yield, estimated savings, and a fixed-price installation quotation.
MCS Installation Standard (MIS 3002): Mandatory Requirement
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) requires all certified installers to complete a thorough site survey before installation. This standard (MIS 3002) makes sure systems are designed safely and perform as predicted. Only MCS-certified installations qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee.

Cost Guidance
Our solar panel surveys are completely free for homeowners across Greater Manchester. There is no obligation to proceed with an installation. If you do go ahead, the survey cost is included in your installation price. For commercial properties or sites outside our standard coverage area, a refundable survey deposit of £99 may apply.
