Solar Panels for New Builds

Since June 2022, updated Part L Building Regulations require all new homes in England to produce approximately 31% less carbon than previous standards. In practice, this means most new builds now need solar panels to meet compliance. Manchester Renewables works with developers, housebuilders, and self-builders across Greater Manchester to design and install solar PV systems that meet Part L requirements while maximising homeowner value.

We provide a complete service from SAP calculation support through to MCS-certified installation and handover. Whether you are building a single self-build property or a development of 200+ homes, our team fits in smoothly with your construction programme to install solar at the right stage — avoiding costly delays and rework.

Part L Building Regulations 2021: 31% Carbon Reduction

The 2021 update to Part L of the Building Regulations (effective June 2022) requires new dwellings to achieve a 31% reduction in carbon emissions compared to 2013 standards. Solar PV is the most common and cost-effective way for developers to meet this target, with the Future Homes Standard (expected 2025) set to increase the requirement to 75-80%.

Why It Matters

  • Part L compliance is mandatory — solar PV is the most cost-effective route for most new build designs
  • Homes with solar panels sell faster and attract higher prices, adding value to your development
  • MCS certification for each plot enables homeowners to claim SEG payments immediately
  • In-roof solar integrated at build stage costs less than retrofitting and delivers a cleaner aesthetic

Cost Guidance

New build solar installations typically cost £1,200-£2,000 per kW when installed at scale during construction — significantly less than retrofitting. A typical 3-4kW system per plot costs £3,500-£6,000 depending on panel type, mounting method, and access. Volume discounts apply for developments of 10+ plots. We provide fixed-price quotations per plot for budget certainty.
