Solar Panel Servicing Manchester

An annual solar panel service is the single most effective way to protect your investment and make sure your system continues generating at its rated capacity. Just like a boiler service, a solar PV service involves a structured series of electrical tests, visual inspections and performance checks that identify developing faults before they cause expensive failures or dangerous conditions.

Manchester Renewables carries out annual solar panel servicing across the whole of Greater Manchester for domestic and commercial systems of all sizes. Our MCS-certified engineers follow the IET Code of Practice for Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems, which sets out the testing and inspection standards required to maintain your system's compliance with building regulations, manufacturer warranties and feed-in tariff or Smart Export Guarantee eligibility.

We service systems installed by any company, including systems where the original installer is no longer trading. If you have never had your solar panels serviced — or if it has been more than two years — we strongly recommend booking a service to establish a baseline for your system's health and catch any issues that may have developed unnoticed.

What Is Included?

DC & AC Electrical Testing

Full electrical testing of all DC string voltages, open-circuit voltages, short-circuit currents, insulation resistance and earth continuity. AC side testing includes generation meter readings, export meter verification and RCD trip testing.

Visual Inspection of Panels & Mounting

Roof-level inspection of every panel for microcracks, discolouration, delamination, snail trails and hotspot damage. All mounting rails, clamps, flashing kits and roof fixings checked for corrosion, loosening or weather damage.

Inverter Diagnostics & Firmware Check

Full diagnostic check of your inverter including error log review, fan operation test, thermal performance check and firmware version verification. We update firmware where manufacturer updates are available and beneficial.

Generation Performance Analysis

Comparison of your actual generation data against expected output for your system size, orientation and location. We use SAP and MCS yield data to identify whether your system is generating within acceptable parameters or underperforming.

Written Service Report & Recommendations

A detailed written report documenting all test results, observations and photographs. Any faults or concerns are clearly explained with recommended actions and costs, so you can make informed decisions about any follow-up work.

MCS Consumer Code: Warranty protection for the life of your system

The MCS Consumer Code requires that solar installations are maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Having your system serviced annually by an MCS-certified installer keeps you compliant with the Consumer Code, which protects your right to make warranty claims against the manufacturer and provides access to the MCS dispute resolution process if problems arise.

Why It Matters

  • Undetected DC arc faults are a leading cause of solar panel fires — annual testing catches degraded connections before they become dangerous
  • Inverter failures often develop gradually over months, with reduced efficiency long before a complete shutdown occurs
  • Most panel manufacturer warranties require evidence of regular professional maintenance for claims to be valid
  • A system generating 15% below capacity on a 4kW installation loses approximately 500 kWh per year — worth around £125 in electricity savings and SEG payments
  • MCS compliance requires periodic inspection and testing, and your DNO connection agreement may also mandate it

Cost Guidance

A standard annual solar panel service for a domestic system of up to 16 panels in Manchester typically costs between £120 and £180. This includes all electrical testing, visual inspection, inverter diagnostics and a written report. Larger systems, three-phase installations and systems requiring scaffold access are quoted individually. We offer a discounted annual service plan at £150 per year when you commit to a two-year agreement, which includes priority booking and a 10% discount on any repair work identified during the service.
