80kW College Solar Installation, Greater Manchester

Manchester Renewables installed an 80kW commercial solar PV system on a college building in Greater Manchester. Panels were mounted across flat roof sections of the campus, positioned to maximise generation while leaving clear access for maintenance and rooftop plant.

Colleges have a strong energy profile for solar — classrooms, IT suites, workshops, and canteens all draw power during the daytime when panels are producing at their peak. That means a high proportion of the electricity generated goes straight into the building rather than being exported.

The system is estimated to generate around 68,000 kWh per year, delivering significant savings on the college's electricity bills and helping meet sustainability targets. With public sector funding options available, the net cost and payback for education buildings can be particularly attractive.
