Free roof estimator

Solar Savings Calculator

Trace your roof on the satellite view and see how many panels fit, what they’d generate across a Manchester year, and an indicative guide range for the cost. It takes about a minute, and you can see the whole estimate before giving us any contact details.

How it works

Find your roof

Enter your postcode and the map drops onto the satellite view of your street. Pinch and pan until your property is centred.

Trace one roof face

Tap each corner of the roof face you’d put panels on — usually the one facing closest to south. The area updates as you go.

Tell us the pitch and aspect

A 35° pitch facing south is the classic UK semi. Rough answers are fine; the survey confirms the detail.

See the guide range

Panel count, system size in kWp, annual generation, installed cost and payback — with every assumption listed underneath.

Why we give you a range, not a price

A roof you trace from space tells us the shape and the aspect. It doesn’t tell us what’s underneath it. Rafter spacing, the state of the covering, where the scaffold can stand, how far the cable run is to the consumer unit and whether that board needs upgrading all move the number — sometimes by a lot.

So the calculator gives you an honest range built from our own current prices, and shows you exactly what it assumed. Anyone who gives you a fixed price for solar without looking at your loft is guessing.

The survey is free and there’s no obligation. That’s where the range turns into a written quotation you can actually hold us to.

Solar Savings Calculator — Common Questions

How accurate is the solar calculator?
It is an indicative guide, not a quotation. The roof area comes from the outline you trace, so it is only as accurate as your tracing — and it cannot see rafter spacing, the condition of your roof covering, scaffolding access or whether your consumer unit needs upgrading. Treat it as a realistic starting point, then let us confirm it with a free survey.
Do I have to give my details to see the estimate?
No. The full estimate, including the cost range and everything it assumed, is shown on screen before we ask for anything. We only ask for your details if you want to book the free survey that turns the estimate into a written quotation.
Which part of my roof should I trace?
Trace the single roof face you would actually put panels on — normally the one facing closest to south, and the one with the least shading. Do not trace the whole roof outline including the far side, because panels only go on one plane.
Why is the estimate a range rather than one number?
Two things vary a lot: how much sun a Manchester roof gets in a given year, and how much of that electricity you use at home rather than exporting it. Someone at home during the day gets far more value from the same system than someone out at work. Rather than pick a flattering figure, we show the span and tell you what sits behind it.
How many solar panels will fit on my roof?
The calculator works it out from the area you trace. Panels need to stop about 300mm short of every roof edge and each one takes up roughly 2m², so it insets your outline by that border and counts how many fit in what is left. Most homes we fit have around 10 panels.
Does the calculator include the battery?
Yes, by default. Our standard installation includes a Fox ESS battery, and you can switch to a Tesla Powerwall or choose panels only. A battery raises how much of your own generation you use at home from roughly 35–50% to roughly 70–85%, which increases the bill saving but also the up-front cost. The calculator shows you the difference.
Is the 0% VAT rate included?
Yes. All the installed costs shown include 0% VAT, which applies to residential solar until 31 March 2027, along with installation, scaffolding and MCS certification.
What happens after I book the survey?
We come out, check the roof structure, measure properly, assess shading through the day, look at your consumer unit and talk through how you use electricity. You then get a fixed written quotation. There is no charge and no obligation.
