How often should a solar PV system be serviced?
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) recommends that solar PV systems are serviced at least once every two years, though an annual service is considered best practice. Regular servicing keeps your system operating efficiently, maintains warranty compliance and catches developing faults before they cause costly failures. Systems over 10 years old particularly benefit from annual checks as components begin to age.
My original solar installer has gone out of business. Can you take over servicing?
Yes, this is very common. Many solar companies that installed systems during the Feed-in Tariff boom between 2010 and 2019 have since ceased trading. We can adopt your system, carry out a full baseline health check, and provide ongoing servicing and maintenance. We will also help you locate and organise any missing documentation such as MCS certificates and DNO connection agreements.
Will servicing my solar panels void the manufacturer warranty?
No — servicing by an MCS-certified installer will not void your warranty. In fact, most panel and inverter manufacturers require evidence of regular maintenance for warranty claims. Using an unqualified person or attempting DIY repairs is far more likely to void your warranty. We provide documentation for every service visit that you can use to support any future warranty claim.
How do I know if my solar system is underperforming?
Common signs include electricity bills higher than expected, lower Smart Export Guarantee payments, an inverter displaying error codes or a red/orange warning light, and generation figures significantly below what was predicted at installation. If your 4kW system in Manchester is generating less than 3,400 kWh per year, there may be an issue worth investigating. We can carry out a performance analysis to determine whether your system is generating what it should.
Do you service commercial solar installations as well as domestic?
